Composed for solo piano in 1829, this Waltz is one of Frederic Chopin’s most popular works. Yet it was never published during his lifetime and he wished for it to be burned after his death, like several of his other pieces. It is a product of his earlier days, written in Warsaw at the age of 19 before he settled in France, never to return to his native Poland again. A child prodigy and virtuoso pianist, Chopin remains one of the most famous composers of the Romantic period.
This waltz was never intended for dancing — it is largely melancholic, with three different sections and primary melodies. The PDF includes the score and separate parts.
